We have been having a bee thief in the garden this month. This insect will catch a bee in mid air and then hold it down on a branch to eat it. I am offering each child 25 cents for each bee killer they dispose of.

O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. (Psalm 30:2, ESV)

Definitely a member of the Robber Fly family, not a European Hornet. Very possibly a Southern Bee Killer. I would love to have a couple of these to mount in my “Good Bee, Bad Bee” collection.
